Creative Writing Story

Life in Pewaukee is very peaceful. There is a nice school district and many nice neighborhoods. Everything about Pewaukee is about to change very soon.

The radio plays FM 102.1 when I walk into my house after I got off the bus. I just got home from school and my backpack straps are digging into my neck because I have a ton of homework. As I sat at the table to start the dreadful homework my mom turned on the news, when I heard, “Just in, the US government has decided to erase Pewaukee, WI from the map and Earth!” “This will happen next month, January 4, 2012.” “This is occurring because of 1 child and only 1 child, he has the knowledge to rule the world and all of the governments.” “A direct quote from the leader of the Military, “He will be captured and be harvested for his knowledge and anybody that gets in our way will be put to eternal rest; not so peaceful.” “Well there you have it folks and c’ya tonight at 10 for a story on a kid that got sent to prison for 25 years for poking his friend in the stomach.”

I immediately drop my pencil and wonder, “What if I am that kid?” My mom throws a pizza in for dinner and I just can’t wait to eat. I just want to get my mind off of the news. My dad comes home after running to the store to get Christmas cookie ingredients. He has a very uneasy look on his face. I ask him “what’s wrong?”
He answers back in a shakily way, “ Did you hear the news about the kid in Pewaukee?”
“Yeah.”
“Well on my way home I turned on the news and they had figured out the Child’s name.”
“So… who is it?” There was a very uneasy pause then he was able to slip out to names a first and a last.
“Cody… Haluzak.” My face went pale and I was about to faint.
“Are you serious?” My mom yelled.
“Yes I am serious why would I joke about this?”
“Wow I can’t believe this is really happening.” I thought to myself.

The next day I woke up to police sirens and red and blue lights were flashing through my windows. I heard a loud voice come from outside telling us to come out or we will be removed by force. My mom and dad pulled me out of the bed and we sat at the kitchen table.
“What are we going to do?” asked my mother.
“I don’t know,” say’s my dad. “I guess we can just turn him over.”
“Are you crazy they are going to kill him.”
“What can we do?” My dad calls his friend and asks him if he still has his snow plow. I think that his friend answered yes, but I am not sure.
“All right I want you to floor it towards the police cars and smash them out of our way then we will hopefully drive away and get some place safe.” my dad says to his friend. I hear a loud “NO they will arrest me” from the phone and I knew it was over.
I heard loud banging on the door and the police officer said that we have 5 minutes until they come in using force. My dad gives in and opens the door.
“WHAT ARE YOU DOING!” my mom yells.
“There is no way we can get out of here.” “We are going to have to give him to them.”
“Are you DUMB?!” My mom yells again. “There are going to KILL him.”
“Well better him then us.” My dad says meanly.
“Well if he goes I go.” My mom says. The police break through the door and grab me and my mom yells “NO!” and smacks the police officer in the face and he stumbles back while 3 more officers grab me and my mom. They through us in a car and knock my mom out. The next thing I see is the butt of a shotgun in my face and everything goes black.
I wake up and I am in a big white room with tons of machines with long and scary needles. I black out again. I wake up to a guy in a white suit and a black tinted helmet looking at me with a creepy grin on his face. He grabs a needle and says, “It will only hurt a lot HAHAHAHAHA!” I feel around and poke my finger on something sharp. I follow the blade with my fingers and grasp a handle on the knife. I take a swing at the mad man and get his arm. He shrieks in pain. An alarm goes off and about 5 to 10 men armed with guns come rushing in and make sure the “Doctor” is ok and then the inject a chemical in to my arm. My vision gets blocked by blood red. The blood red turns to black. My life has just ended.

Speak

You come back to school on your freshman year. All your friends hate you because you called the cops on the end of the summer party. This is from a book called “Speak” by Laurie Halse Anderson. In this book the only freedom Melinda gets is with Mr. Freeman in art, and the only way she can show it is through the trees she draws.

To begin with, Mr. Freeman helps indicate the freedom that Melinda has in art class. Mr. Freeman’s name says a lot. His name has “Free” in it indicating freedom. Mr. Freeman is nice to Melinda and on page 9 and 10 Melinda calls art class a “Sanctuary”. Everything is good in art class. The radio plays Melinda’s favorite channel.

Even though Mr. Freeman takes a big part in “Speak”, trees as a symbolism takes a big part as well. On page 12 Melinda picks a piece of paper from Mr. Freemans broken globe and gets the word tree. On page 110 Melinda and David are passing notes and Melinda draws a tree. That symbolizes their relationship and that it is growing slow like a tree. On page 187 a tree is being chopped down in Melinda’s yard. That symbolizes that Melinda is going to start over and live a better life because once the tree is chopped down it will grow again. Then on page 188 she rides her bike to a barn with a lot of trees in the yard and then she remembers that this is the area she was assaulted.

In conclusion, the only way Melinda can show her freedom with Mr. Freeman is through the trees in the book and the trees she draws. Melinda, in the book called “Speak” changed a lot of the freshman year. She showed it through the trees in the book. She finally overcame her fear of Andy Evans and showed him how she felt.
